Schools’ Choice Wellbeing and Employee Assistance Programme 

The health and wellbeing of staff is hugely important in delivering a high-class education to children and young people. Schools’ Choice is delighted to offer an Employee Assistance and Wellbeing service to schools and academies. We have seen some changes recently as our provider, People Asset Management (PAM), is now part of Sodexo Benefits and Rewards Services. Sodexo regularly tests the market to ensure its products remain competitive and valued. As a result of the market testing, the EAP is now provided by Care first. 

The EAP will continue to address three key areas:

  • Preventive action

  • Health and wellbeing

  • Absence management and timely return to work

The EAP continues to provide support for a wide range of issues including: workplace change; work and personal relationships; work-life balance; health and wellbeing (including smoking cessation and weight loss support and guidance); pressure and stress; family and caring issues; consumer rights; finances and debt management and counselling.

The EAP is delivered through a combination of telephone and web-based support.  The service accepts self-referrals, manager-led referrals and also referrals from occupational health with the employee’s consent.  The manager-led referral process has been simplified so that managers can simply call the EAP line and either pass the phone to the employee or request a call-back.

Both the telephone and web-based support are available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year to all employees.   

The service includes up to six, one hour sessions of confidential face-to-face counselling for employees on a range of personal and work-related matters.

Care first also offers an online personal and interactive wellbeing portal, which helps employees to identify which areas of their wellbeing may need some focus and gives  access to tools, information and support to make positive changes.  

The portal is available as part of your subscription and is called Zest

Once registered employees have access to:

  • Personalised training programmes to improve cardio, strength, conditioning and flexibility.  Personal progress is tracked graphically and programmes are updates as the employee progresses.

  • A tailored weight management programme including a calorie-controlled programme which interacts dynamically with the personal fitness programme

  • An interactive food and exercise diary that records foods consumed and activities completed daily.  The interactive food ‘cupboard’ allows the employee to create balanced meals, menus and food lists.

  • A goal setting tool that allows employees to complete a confidential assessment and create personalised goals.
